vars() function

The vars() function is used to get the __dict__ attribute of the given object.

Version:

(Python 3.2.5)

Syntax:

vars([object])

Parameter:

Name	Description	Required / Optional
object	Any object with a __dict__attribute.	Required

Note: Without an argument, vars() acts like locals(). The locals dictionary is only useful for reads since updates to the locals dictionary are ignored.

Return value:

Returns the __dict__ attribute of the given object.

Example: Python vars() function

class Test:
  def __init__(self, a = 10, b = 20, c = -21, d = 6):
    self.a = a
    self.b = b
    self.c = c
    self.d = d
InstanceOfTest = Test()
print(vars(InstanceOfTest))

Output:

{'d': 6, 'a': 10, 'c': -21, 'b': 20}

Find current directory and file's directory:

To get the full path to the directory a Python file is contained in, write this in that file:

import os 
dir_path = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__))

(Note that the incantation above won't work if you've already used os.chdir() to change your current working directory, since the value of the __file__ constant is relative to the current working directory and is not changed by an os.chdir() call.)

To get the current working directory use

import os
cwd = os.getcwd()
