C Exercises: Calculate the sum of the series [ 1+x+x^2/2!+x^3/3!+....]
C For Loop: Exercise-23 with Solution
Write a program in C to display the sum of the series [ 1+x+x^2/2!+x^3/3!+....].
Sample Solution:
C Code:
#include <stdio.h>
void main()
{
float x,sum,no_row;
int i,n;
printf("Input the value of x :");
scanf("%f",&x);
printf("Input number of terms : ");
scanf("%d",&n);
sum =1; no_row = 1;
for (i=1;i<n;i++)
{
no_row = no_row*x/(float)i;
sum =sum+ no_row;
}
printf("\nThe sum is : %f\n",sum);
}
Sample Output:
Input the value of x :3 Input number of terms : 5 The sum is : 16.375000

Static variable inside of a function in C
The scope of variable is where the variable name can be seen. Here, x is visible only inside function foo().
The lifetime of a variable is the period over which it exists. If x were defined without the keyword static, the lifetime would be from the entry into foo() to the return from foo(); so it would be re-initialized to 5 on every call.
The keyword static acts to extend the lifetime of a variable to the lifetime of the programme; e.g. initialization occurs once and once only and then the variable retains its value - whatever it has come to be - over all future calls to foo().
