Pandas: String and Regular Expression Exercise-5 with Solution

Write a Pandas program to capitalize all the string values of specified columns of a given DataFrame.

    'name': ['alberto','gino','ryan', 'Eesha', 'syed'],
    'date_of_birth ': ['17/05/2002','16/02/1999','25/09/1998','11/05/2002','15/09/1997'],

})
print("Original DataFrame:")
print(df)
print("\nAfter capitalizing name column:")
df['name'] = list(map(lambda x: x.capitalize(), df['name']))
print(df)

Sample Output:

Original DataFrame:
      name date_of_birth    age
0  alberto     17/05/2002  18.5

After capitalizing name column:
      name date_of_birth    age

4     Syed     15/09/1997  23.0

Python: Tips of the Day

Find current directory and file's directory:

To get the full path to the directory a Python file is contained in, write this in that file:

import os 
dir_path = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__))

(Note that the incantation above won't work if you've already used os.chdir() to change your current working directory, since the value of the __file__ constant is relative to the current working directory and is not changed by an os.chdir() call.)

To get the current working directory use

import os
cwd = os.getcwd()
