Pandas Practice Set-1: Rename all the columns of the diamonds Dataframe
Pandas Practice Set-1: Exercise-8 with Solution
Write a Pandas program to rename all the columns of the diamonds Dataframe.
Sample Solution :
Python Code :
import pandas as pd
diamonds = pd.read_csv('https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mwaskom/seaborn-data/master/diamonds.csv')
print("Original Dataframe:")
print(diamonds.head())
diamonds_cols = ['new_carat', 'new_cut', 'new_color', 'new_clarity', 'new_depth', 'new_table', 'new_price', 'new_x', 'new_y', 'new_z']
diamonds.columns = diamonds_cols
print("\nAfter renaming all the columns of the said dataframe:")
diamonds.rename(columns={'color':'diamond_color', 'clarity':'dimaond_clarity'}, inplace=True)
print(diamonds.head())
Sample Output:
Original Dataframe: carat cut color clarity depth table price x y z 0 0.23 Ideal E SI2 61.5 55.0 326 3.95 3.98 2.43 1 0.21 Premium E SI1 59.8 61.0 326 3.89 3.84 2.31 2 0.23 Good E VS1 56.9 65.0 327 4.05 4.07 2.31 3 0.29 Premium I VS2 62.4 58.0 334 4.20 4.23 2.63 4 0.31 Good J SI2 63.3 58.0 335 4.34 4.35 2.75 After renaming all the columns of the said dataframe: new_carat new_cut new_color ... new_x new_y new_z 0 0.23 Ideal E ... 3.95 3.98 2.43 1 0.21 Premium E ... 3.89 3.84 2.31 2 0.23 Good E ... 4.05 4.07 2.31 3 0.29 Premium I ... 4.20 4.23 2.63 4 0.31 Good J ... 4.34 4.35 2.75 [5 rows x 10 columns]

Python: Tips of the Day
Find current directory and file's directory:
To get the full path to the directory a Python file is contained in, write this in that file:
import os dir_path = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__))
(Note that the incantation above won't work if you've already used os.chdir() to change your current working directory, since the value of the __file__ constant is relative to the current working directory and is not changed by an os.chdir() call.)
To get the current working directory use
import os cwd = os.getcwd()
Documentation references for the modules, constants and functions used above:
- The os and os.path modules.
- The __file__ constant
- os.path.realpath(path) (returns "the canonical path of the specified filename, eliminating any symbolic links encountered in the path")
- os.path.dirname(path) (returns "the directory name of pathname path")
- os.getcwd() (returns "a string representing the current working directory")
- os.chdir(path) ("change the current working directory to path")
