Pandas Grouping and Aggregating: Split-Apply-Combine Exercise-15 with Solution

Write a Pandas program to split the following dataframe into groups and count unique values of 'value' column.

Test Data:

   id value
0   1     a
1   1     a
2   2     b
3   3  None
4   3     a
5   4     a
6   4  None
7   4     b

Sample Solution:

    'id': [1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4],

})

print (df.groupby('value')['id'].nunique())

Sample Output:

Original DataFrame:
   id value
0   1     a

Count unique values:

Name: id, dtype: int64

Python: Tips of the Day

Find current directory and file's directory:

To get the full path to the directory a Python file is contained in, write this in that file:

import os 
dir_path = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__))

(Note that the incantation above won't work if you've already used os.chdir() to change your current working directory, since the value of the __file__ constant is relative to the current working directory and is not changed by an os.chdir() call.)

To get the current working directory use

import os
cwd = os.getcwd()
