NumPy: Get help on the add function
NumPy: Basic Exercise-2 with Solution
Write a NumPy program to get help on the add function.
Sample Solution :
Python Code :
import numpy as np
print(np.info(np.add))
Sample Output:
add(x1, x2[, out]) Add arguments element-wise. Parameters ---------- x1, x2 : array_like The arrays to be added. If ``x1.shape != x2.shape``, they must be broadcastable to a common shape (which may be the shape of one or the other). Returns ------- add : ndarray or scalar The sum of `x1` and `x2`, element-wise. Returns a scalar if both `x1` and `x2` are scalars. Notes ----- Equivalent to `x1` + `x2` in terms of array broadcasting. Examples -------- >>> np.add(1.0, 4.0) 5.0 >>> x1 = np.arange(9.0).reshape((3, 3)) >>> x2 = np.arange(3.0) >>> np.add(x1, x2) array([[ 0., 2., 4.], [ 3., 5., 7.], [ 6., 8., 10.]]) None

Python: Tips of the Day
Find current directory and file's directory:
To get the full path to the directory a Python file is contained in, write this in that file:
import os dir_path = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__))
(Note that the incantation above won't work if you've already used os.chdir() to change your current working directory, since the value of the __file__ constant is relative to the current working directory and is not changed by an os.chdir() call.)
To get the current working directory use
import os cwd = os.getcwd()
Documentation references for the modules, constants and functions used above:
- The os and os.path modules.
- The __file__ constant
- os.path.realpath(path) (returns "the canonical path of the specified filename, eliminating any symbolic links encountered in the path")
- os.path.dirname(path) (returns "the directory name of pathname path")
- os.getcwd() (returns "a string representing the current working directory")
- os.chdir(path) ("change the current working directory to path")
